JTR Built is James Russo — a Newcastle carpenter with seven years on the tools across high-end architectural homes, decks, outdoor structures and detailed finishing work, who went out on his own in 2024 to build things the way he thinks they should be built. No handing the job down a chain. No “that’ll do.” James, across every detail, start to finish.
Most people think carpenters just follow plans. On real jobs, the plans don’t tell you how to solve every problem — a huge part of carpentry is problem-solving. That’s the part James is known for: the stair framing on a double slope, the mitred picture-frame border, the work under the deck nobody will ever see but that decides how long it lasts.
He’s even hand-nailed an entire deck because the client wanted the traditional finish — done properly, because that’s what was asked for.

Quotes are free. We come out, look at the job properly, and you get a written quote before anything starts — what's included, what it costs. No surprises bolted on halfway through.

Honest answer: it depends how you want to live with it. House-proud and happy to oil it — hardwood is beautiful and stays cooler underfoot. Set-and-forget — composite holds its colour and you hose it instead of oiling it. We build both and we'll tell you straight which suits your job.
